1. Welcome to our new summer interns Adam, Katie, and Liz!

I'm very happy to welcome our new summer interns. Adam, Katie, and Liz started working last week. They've each committed a minimum of 15 hours a week. I couldn't overstate how thankful and excited I am to have them working with me. They each bring special creativity, focus, talent, and insight to the work. Please join me in welcoming them. This is the second summer internship program. Last year, Eva, Raquel, and Carla, along with seven other young volunteers helped us get to an entirely new place as a community, bringing our environmental neighborhood project into focus and expanding our projects. This year, we have the goal of making Beyond Today a sustainable group, financially strong, with a more solid community identity, and with a great array of projects and advocacy campaigns. We hope you'll join us this summer! -Julie Peterson

Protest: Pilsen Community Garden to be turned into parking lot. (please forward to friends who live in Alderman Solis's office)

forwarded message: "On Thursday (21 June), at 12pm, there will be a march to Alderman Solis' office from the site (S. Canalport & S. Union) to demonstrate community opposition to his approval of the sale and his unwillingness to engage with his constituency on this important matter. This is an important park in Chicago, especially for the neighborhood of Pilsen which does not have much green space and has two coal plants that spew air pollution. The CUCG forms a barrier between the highway and the community as well as being a place where community members can interact. The community leaders organizing the effort are Cuahutémoc Morfin (312 287 6610 or pomorfin@hotmail.com ), Rosa Reyes (773 517 0296) and Edgar Ramirez (of the Pilsen is not For Sale campaign quixote27@gmail.com ). The Pilsen community would very much appreciate your support, and any mobilization of your neighbors and friends from the North Park Garden Club for both letter writing and the march that could be arranged. Please do not hesitate to be in touch with any of the above for more information. If you do issue a public statement, please forward it to me at this address so I can add it to the growing collection of media on the issue. Many thanks in advance."

Healthcare Rally

Dear Illinois PNHP (Physicians for a National Health Program) Members and Friends, Filmmaker Michael Moore will rally with Illinois PNHP and allied groups this Thursday, June 21 at 4:00 p.m. at Daley Bicentennial Plaza (337 E. Randolph, just east of Millennium Park by the old skating rink). Moore is stopping in Chicago to promote his new documentary, "SiCKO," a scathing indictment of the U.S. health system. Speakers from PNHP and other health advocacy groups will join him on stage. The rally will be followed by a march one block to the Blue Cross Blue Shield building. Save the date!

PNHP volunteers are needed to pass out fliers for the rally, pass out buttons and literature, and carry the banner in the march. If you are willing to come out one hour before the rally (3:00), please email Nicholas Skala at nick@pnhp.org. Also, please visit PNHP's special SiCKO site for materials suitable for printing and handing out at theaters: www.SickoCure.org
