How to
stop global warming
with food.
It may seem unlikely, but it's true. Eating food out of season means it's being shipped from one part of the globe, where it's berry season to another part of the globe where it's not.
In Chicago, it may seem like our summer is so short that it's kind of hopeless, but not true!
Last week, 17 of our neighbors and friends got together for the 40th Green Dinner and the topic was hot: FOOD.
Here's what came of it:
We learned that people in our neighborhood garden, eat from the farmer's market, and have subscribed to local farms (CSA's)
We are going to make a bulk purchase of mosquito repellent. It's $5.29 (usually $10) for 4 oz of Oil of Lemon Euchalyptus spray, which is recommended by the Center for Disease Control because it is as effective as DEET. We prefer it because there is some concern over DEET due to some studies showing possible health risks.

We'd love to order lots of this stuff and distribute it. We'll wrap little fliers around the bottles that explain why organic mosquito management is important to human and environmental health. Our summer interns and other volunteers will go door to door on each block in our neighborhood to spread the word about organic mosquito management and eliminating standing water. Please support us by helping us get the funds to make this project work.
Consider making a donation so we can distribute them to every home on your block! Hopefully we can meet this initial goal by Tuesday and place our first order. I'm sure we'll need more.
Thanks everybody! Email us if you'd like to pledge some funds but don't want to use paypal.
If it's for your personal use, we'll ask you to pick up your order once it's
ready (in about a week). Let us know if your contribution is for your own personal
order or if you are donating towards the community project. Either way, we're
happy to get more of this stuff out there!
