Wednesday, August 1st Beyond Today community event: Celebration of Nature in Water's Garden

6:00. Water's Gardeners, Beyond Today community members, Restorationists, and other like-minded folk are all invited to Water's Garden at Sunnyside and Campbell for a celebration of the garden and the good work we do. As part of this celebration, we will share about the lakota tradition of the four directions of nature. Please come and tell us what the garden, restoration work, and nature means to you. It's a potluck.

The main part of the celebration will feature an art event: Bobby Sutton, artist, pipefitter and fellow gardener, is going open a large and beautiful retablo that he created. It hasn't been opened for several years now. It was last opened at Somme Prairie Grove. A retablo is like "box with a surprise inside", as Bobby says. It is used ceremonially to focus our attention and energy on some sacred, special place. This particular piece wainspired by Black Elk's vision and includes special words to be spoken to the four directions. Please try to come and participate in this beautiful moment. If you would like to say a poem or song, come prepared. Bullfrogs community choir will sing. People should bring food to share, if they can. It is to honor tothank Mother Earth and our garden for the beauty and food they have provided us.

* note this event was originally July 18th, but we were rained out and instead had a wonderful time on Julie's front porch, singing and signing petitions, eating caprese and tomatoes from the farmer's market.

Saturday, August 4th Beyond Today participates in the Lincoln Square Green Fest and Garden Walk
Giddings Plaza at 4731 North Lincoln Avenue A $5 donation provides entry, a map and full details on all featured gardens. The walk begins at Giddings Plaza. In addition to the Garden Walk, a Green Fair will take place in Giddings Plaza. It will feature at least 15 different environmentally friendly organizations doing demonstrations and offering helpful information. We still could use some volunteers to help the day go smoothly and join in the fun. Email if you'd like to help.

Beyond Today organizer's wish list:

We could use donations of the following items and would prefer to find used donated versions and not waste resources if possible. Thanks for your help. Here's the list:

a PC that works (one of our laptops broke), a harddrive for external storage that is reasonably large, and a PDA that works (Julie's broke).

email julie@BeyondToday.org if you might have something that you could donate. : ) Thanks!

Volunteer opportunities:

Beyond Today is looking for committed volunteers to organize a number of projects.

We are looking for people who would like to make a real difference and would enjoy being a central part of our community organization. If you have a few hours a week to be one of our organizers, please email us some of the ways you might be able to get involved. We've recently had several new organizers commit to take responsibility for new and exciting projects and hope to assemble a larger team of wonderful people to work together to bring the possibilities of your green intentions into reality.

Let us know if you are interested in being a part of this good work and wonderful community effort.
