Announcements and upcoming events

Please email us if you'd like to join our peace committee. We've had some community members express a wish to work hard to focus on the Oct. 27th peace march. Email us if you'd like to join this group. They will organize local peace events and participation in city-wide events. email beyondtoday@beyondtoday.org. We've got fliers to post and hand out, banners to print, bus tickets to sell, and more good exciting work to do. New organizers and volunteers welcome.

Sept 26 Wed. Garden Night at Water's. Sunnyside and Campbell. We'll start early at 5 and work together and talk about neighborhood and Beyond Today events. It's a good time to connect to the land (the organic land!) and meet your neighbors and some Beyond Today organizers and community members. Campfire after the work. Come for the work, stay for the s'mores! Bring chocolate and graham crackers. We'll burn some branches from a giant dead tree that was cut down today! See you tonight.

Sept 28 5 pm, CHICAGO CRITICAL MASS 10TH ANNIVERSARY Daley Plaza

On the last Friday of every month, bicyclists meet at 5pm in Daley Plaza and embark on a bike ride through the city streets. This month's ride should be quite interesting. http://www.chicagocriticalmass.org/ccmx

Sept 29 FALL FEST at Water's
from Pete: This Saturday is the Autumn Garden Festival, 10-2. We desperately need volunteers to help with certain tasks:

Set up
Sign in table
Cooking
Drink station
Supervising garden work
Helping to get some sports organized
Organizing drum circle
Cleanup

The menu will include quesadillas, rice and beans,
pico de gallo (a contest), organic, garden iced grape
juice lemonade, organic garden iced mint tea,
specially prepared organic garden potatoes with garden
herbs, and sliced, fresh local apples.
This year we will try a new organizing ideas: everyone
should sign in. When you sign in you get a meal
ticket. People are being asked to BRING THEIR OWN CUP,
PLATE AND FORKS, and napkin. Each person gets a
nametag with a colored star for each thing they
brought. If they didn't bring anything, they can run
home, or we can provide this time. The idea is that
people who bring their own cup will be given all the
refills they want. People who forgot will get have to
pay some amount for each drink (.25 or .50).
We hope in this way to avoid the waste that often is
produced. We need volunteers to make this work.

Upcoming Riverbank workdays: Oct 13 9-12, Oct 20 1-3, Nov 17 9-12. email Kevin@Beyondtoday.org to join the Riverbank Neighbor email list.
