side of the river at Berteau, which is two blocks north of Irving Park)
Oct 13 Household Hazardous Waste Collection
8:00am 3:00pm Northeastern University, 5500 N. St. Louis Ave.
Bring your old or unused chemicals, cleaners, paints, computers, cell
phones and medications for proper disposal and/or recycling to keep
them out of landfills. On Oct.13, representatives from the Home to Stay
Furniture Program will also be on-hand to accept your gently used sofas,
beds, dinette sets and dressers. The program provides furniture for
once-homeless Chicagoans who have moved into housing. If youd
like to organize a furniture collection drive for your neighborhood,
call the Chicago Department of Human Services at (312) 746-8545.
Oct 16 Multi-Unit Building Recycling Workshop
47th Ward Multi-Unit Building Recycling Workshop Tuesday, October 16,
7:00 pm Welles Park Field House Alderman Gene Schulter and the Ravenswood
Community Council would like to invite you to this informational workshop
at the Welles Park Field House. Learn about ways your multi-unit building
can create an effective recycling program in collaboration with your
private scavenger service.
Representatives from the Department of Streets and Sanitation, the Department
of Environment, and local scavenger services will be on hand to answer
your questions.

Oct 22 Public Forum:City of Chicago Climate Action Strategy Plan

Karen Hobbs, 1st Deputy Commissioner, and Brendan Daley, Deputy Commissioner,
will be with us to present City proposals, answer questions and listen
to public comments.
You can become familiar with the City's proposals by visiting our website
and reviewing the draft plan and City questionnaire. There are many
actions that can be taken to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions
that are not yet addressed in the current planning process. Now is the
time for meaningful action. This is your opportunity to speak out, and
we hope you'll do just that.
October 27th 2007 End the War Troops Out Now
Beyond Today community members are working to help make the October
27th Peace March a huge success. We need to do outreach in our community
and with our own friends and family. We will meet at Water's School
at 12:30, walk to Wells Park for a neighborhood peace vigil, and then
head downtown.
Please email us if you would like to help us organize our neighborhood
for a strong showing at the October 27th peace march. We'll put members
of our peace community in contact with one another and help coordinate
this effort. New organizers and volunteers welcome and needed.

heading to Wells Park (Western and Montrose) for our neighborhood Peace
Vigil 1:30pm - Union Park - Lake and Washington (speeches, music, food,
water) March - 2:30 from Union Park to Federal Plaza Rally - 4:00 at
the Federal Plaza
Farmers Market at St. Ben's Saturday, November 3 St. Ben's at
Irving Park and Bell Celebrate the fall season at the Harvest of Hope
Farmers Market on Saturday, November 3, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
in St. Benedict Parish Social Center at the corner of Irving Park Road
and Bell Avenue. A variety of products from independent family farms
in Illinois and Wisconsin will be for sale, including: wool products;
meat; sorghum, syrup, honey, cheeses, grains, preserves, farmstead milk
soap and other regional farm and global fair trade products. Ten percent
of all sales will go toward the Harvest of Hope fund that was established
to help small family farmers who may be experiencing a time of financial
difficulty. This fund has been very active in Wisconsin (distributing
over $600,000 and helping 600 families in the past 20 years) and is
just getting started in Illinois. This farmers market is a cooperative
effort of the Churches' Center for Land and People and St. Benedict
Parish Peace and Justice Committee. For more information contact Mike
