City Sprays Pesticide Tuesday and Wednesday in many neighborhoods
Please alert your neighbors and forward this email to those who wish to receive alerts.

This pesticide, Anvil, has not been tested for long term risks. The pesticide industry has a dire history of promoting pesticides as "safe" only for them to be later banned as dangerous. The volunteers of Beyond Today believe that this mistake should not be repeated.

We believe that it is wrong to develop new chemicals of this nature and then test them on the entire population of Chicago.

We also with to remind Chicagoans that Clark Chemical, of Roselle, Illinois is making millions of dollars and thus, encourages fear of West Nile Virus, which is actually a very rare illness which only affects those with weakened immune systems, like the flu. Read more and sign the petition

Start saving your energy bills. We are working on a project where residents will use their energy bills to chart their energy savings as we work together to find ways to lessen our impact on the planet. We'll also look for ways to bring green energy to our neighborhood.

Some Anvil Poetry:

Anvil Cocktails for All by Pete Leki (click to hear the poem read by the author)

It's Summer in the City
And the crickets sing at night
The jets roar in the wispy clouds
But things just don't seem right…
without some…

Anvil whining down the block
Just as we sit down for dinner
Whoever got that Anvil contract
Sure turned out a winner

We get Anvil on our salsa
All up in our posole
Anvil on our pollo
Quesadillas, guacamole.... (click for full text.)

What is Beyond Today?

It's our neighborhood environmental group near the Chicago River by Montrose and the surrounding neighborhoods.

We are grassroots. Our main volunteers and leaders have arisen from community events to clean up the river and establish organic and native gardens within our neighborhood.

We are a diverse group. If you are young or old, renter or homeowner, a hardcore environmentalist, or you just don't like to see resources wasted, Beyond Today is meant to be useful to you.

We are creating a Web-based neighborhood environmentalism photo album, virtual march, video documentary, and downloadable pod-cast recordings to enable us to share our environmental beliefs and practices.

If you live in our neighborhood, please take a moment to let us know if you are interested in joining this effort in some way.

Beyond Today Interns in the News Making the call for clean water without radiation.

Our website is volunteer run and community created.
